During the third day of the International Muğla Culture and Art Festival, neuroscientist Prof. Dr. Sinan Canan came together with readers in Menteşe for a talk and book signing session. Hosted at the Türkan Saylan Contemporary Life Center with the contributions of the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, the event was attended by Muğla Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Aras, Menteşe Mayor Gonca Köksal Aras, and numerous local residents.
Speaking before the talk, Menteşe Mayor Gonca Köksal Aras highlighted that individuals are a complete whole encompassing their minds, emotions, habits, and cultural codes, alongside their physical existence, in the face of rapid information flow. She stated that understanding oneself is essential for a more balanced and meaningful life before welcoming the guest speaker to the stage.
Prof. Dr. Sinan Canan addressed the working mechanisms of the human brain, problems brought by modern life, and educational processes through sociological observations and a humorous narrative. Highlighting that the brain only learns what it truly needs, Canan emphasized that educational systems should support individuals not just academically, but also with essential life skills such as self-awareness and stress management.
Expressing his gratitude to the residents of Muğla who filled the hall despite the rainy weather, Canan signed books for his readers following the discussion. At the conclusion of the event, Menteşe Mayor Gonca Köksal Aras presented a plaque and flowers to Prof. Dr. Sinan Canan for his contributions to the festival.
