The Carian Trail – Datça Peninsula is a long-distance hiking route spanning a total length of 154.8 kilometres, connecting the districts of Datça and Marmaris. Along the route, travellers pass through numerous significant stops rich in history and geography.
One of the major highlights along the way is the ancient city of Knidos, located at the western tip of the Datça peninsula. As part of the Dorian Hexapolis union, this ancient settlement is renowned for its advancements in science, architecture, and art. The site features ruins such as Eudoksus's sundial, theatres, city walls, and a necropolis area, offering hikers a deep look into antiquity.
Further along the trail lie İskele and Eski Datça, the only neighbourhood on the Datça Peninsula with continuous settlement since ancient times. Dating back to the 11th century BC, Eski Datça stands as one of the earliest centers of the peninsula. Another stop on the route, Reşadiye Camii, draws attention with its Ottoman-era architectural details. These stops along the journey provide travellers with a combined experience of nature and history.
