The Carian Trail – Dalyan route is a hiking itinerary with a length of 10.2 kilometres situated within the district of Köyceğiz. This route connects visitors to an important ancient settlement located in the Caria region of ancient Anatolia.
Walkers proceeding along the route encounter the Kaunos Rock Tombs, which are most easily viewed from the Dalyan neighborhood of Muğla's Ortaca district. Established on the slopes of a mountainous hill bypassed by the Calbys (Dalyan Stream), Kaunos was once a port city, though it is now situated away from the sea coast due to the formation of the Dalyan Delta.
Located on the Çandır side of the Dalyan Stream, the ancient city was founded on the Caria-Lycia border by Kaunos, one of the twin children of Miletus. Visitors along the route can examine the remains of city walls, a stoa, agora, fountain, bath, theatre, and a spiritual assembly place.
