Aya Nikola Church was a Greek Orthodox church dedicated to Saint Nicholas, built in 1780 or 1873 and demolished in a controlled manner in 1969 following a structural safety report issued by Pamukkale University. The remains of the church are located in Hilmi Uran Square on Cumhuriyet Street. Following the population exchange between Turkey and Greece, the church was used as a sponge warehouse, a cinema, and a public education center. There are allegations that the decision to demolish the church was made as a result of pressure from the Turkish government of the period and was carried out with the aim of erasing the Greek cultural heritage in Turkey.
